Building Enclosure Commissioning
Burlington, Vermont

The Turner Group was selected to provide Building Enclosure Commissioning (BECx) services for the University of Vermont’s new Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Complex.  The services included design review of construction documents, review of selected shop drawings, attending construction meetings concerning the building enclosure, and completing air and water leakage tests on the enclosure while construction was in progress.

The building enclosure systems included a slate roof, store front glazing systems, curtain walls, large windows, and brick veneer walls.  The enclosure components included an elf adhered air barrier and vapor barrier, mineral wool thermal barrier, and a brick water resistance barrier.  The air and vapor also served as a secondary water resistive barrier.

Testing followed ASTM methodologies and included blower door testing in conjunction with infrared thermography as well as water intrusion testing and air leakage testing for transparent systems.
